About this site
The purpose of the Handbasket is to connect to a community of people trying to redress climate change and its related crises and root drivers.
Why a handbasket? For the alliteration, and because you can carry it with you, even through hell.
Because it recalls Ursula le Guin's Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction.
Because it is woven, made of organic material, and can be mended.
Because practicality and beauty are inseparable.
Because you can put it down when you need to, and then pick it up again when you must.
I want to connect, to give and to collect. To spread radical dialogue for grassroots and transformative change and renewal. While the Handbasket might sometimes refer to things governments and multi-national corporations are doing, they are not my subject here and not the locus from where transformation is nurtured. I am concerned with what is in the basket and who is carrying it. So I will write about and share stories, ideas and news about civil resistance, art and its place in biodiversity, personal transformation, connection, agency and the glory of self-organising nature.
Who are we?
